The second round of the BRSCC National Formula Ford 1600, was at a sunny Snetterton. Qualifying and race one on Saturday, Lucas qualified 3rd, swiftly moving up into 2nd before Kelly reclaimed the 2nd place. Lap 7, Kelly ran wide during an overtake manoeuvre on Middlehurst and once his rear wheels hit the dirt he spun around and across the track. Middlehurst took back the lead by 0.397s over Romanek, who could not challenge for first place as he had to defend from Quinn, Lucas claiming 2nd place.
Sunday was race 2 and 3. Race 2 and the race one order set the race two grid. Lucas Romanek took the lead from pole-sitter Middlehurst into the opening corner. Middlehurst reclaimed it at Brundle, then led all the way until in the final lap a car issue meant he stopped on track. Lucas was forced to drive across the grass to avoid collision, but just holding the lead from
Kelly. With Kelly getting a better run out of the incident he managed to pass Lucas for the lead on the Bentley Straight.
Lucas said afterwards, 'I was already on for 2nd place, it would have been to get the win, but I will take second and the useful points for the championship'.
For the final race of the weekend, it was a reverse grid from 6th, Lucas Romanek, started in 5th place on the grid. Lucas had an amazing start to go from fifth on the reversed-grid to first place in less than a lap. Lucas managed to pull away from the field for the first 3 laps, before Elliott Budzinski managed to chase Lucas down, and gradually cut down the lead lap by lap until the victory fight was decided in an almost photo finish, with Lucas holding on to the lead to claim victory.
Lucas has podiumed in every national race and now leads the National Championship along with the United Championship. Lucas said, 'it is early days, and scores will need to be dropped, but a great start to the season, we couldn't have really asked for a better start'.
