Sunday 2nd July 2023 and United Formula Ford were at Brands Hatch, supporting the Super Tourer event.
Qualifying was underway at 11:00, and Lucas was the first one out on track, eager to get the laps in and see what times could be set. Lucas was setting the fastest laps early in the session and continued to improve lap times as the session went on, lap 14 Lucas set his best time and secure the pole with an impressive time of 50.15. Budzinski the closest rival time setting a close time of 50.36.
During the day Lucas had the chance to sit back and watch the BTCC Historic Tourers and support races throughout the day until 4:45pm and it was the Formula Ford race with Lucas starting on Pole.
Lights out and Lucas had a superb start off the line, taking the lead into paddock bend, and started to pull a lead, with each lap Lucas pulled away ever so slightly, even through traffic, managing to stay ahead of Budzinski, setting the fasted lap of the race in lap 6 of 50.53. Claiming the race win with a comfortable gap over second place of 2.8 seconds ahead.
Lucas said after the race, ‘I was really keen to win the Peter Rogers Trophy, this is such an achievement and a great start to the Champion of Brands. It has been such a great weekend, the car felt perfectly set up throughout testing and onto today. It was also fantastic to see so many race fans here today, really makes a difference’.
Next race is Castle Combe on 15th July and then onto Kirkistown Racing Circuit NI for the next National Formula Ford race.
