Lucas Romanek Double Knockhill Podium Secures 2023 Tourist Trophy in National Formula Ford

September 9th,and the National Formula Fords were hosted by Knockhill, Scotland. This would be the final race weekend to determine the Tourist Trophy for 2023.

Qualifying was in slightly cooler conditions than the teams had experienced in the 30 degree sunshine of the previous day practice sessions.

Lucas qualified in 5th position, so would be starting on the 3rd row. Lucas managed a good start and was quickly up to 3rd, but Kelly and Budzinski were already too far ahead and with good pace, making it difficult to challenge for the lead. Lucas spent almost the entire race defending his 3rd position against a quick Quinn in 4th.

Second race of the day, and Lucas started in 3rd, quickly getting into 2nd, taking the place from Budzinski at Taylors hairpin on lap 2 and pulling away from the pack. Kelly was already too far ahead and with the fastest pace of the field, Kelly pulled further away with each lap. At about midway point, Quinn took 3rd place, once he was ahead of Budzinski, Quinn gradually closed the gap on Lucas. With only 3 laps remaining he had caught Lucas and was putting the pressure on again. It was another nail biting last 2 laps for Lucas to defend and hold onto his 2nd place.

After the races, Lucas said, 'That was a challenging day, I did everything I could to get to the front. But to come away with a 2nd and 3rd and solid points ahead of the final round at Silverstone, I will take that today. The team all worked so hard on the car and it felt good, I just didn't have the pace of Kelly's car today. I am also delighted that my sponsors, SN Heating & Plumbing, will also all be at Silverstone to give extra support at the final race weekend, bring it on!'

Lucas' double podium means he also secured the Tourist Trophy for 2023, which also included Kirkistown NI and Snetterton. Lucas was also the winner of the 2022 Tourist Trophy, which included Anglesey, Knockhill and Snetterton.
